Using the feet to massage I can provide a very powerful massage if required. However I can combine my training in relaxing massage with my knowledge of sports massage to give a more relaxing but equally effective massage if required. This treatment may take longer.

Why Sports Massage?

The body can develop minor soft tissue conditions through any activity that requires a simple movement, not just sport.  constant repetition can cause muscular strains and stress, if these are left untreated, stresses and strains they escalate and create larger problems over a period of time. Sports Massage is a deeper type of massage increasingly recognised by doctors as a method of treatment that can benefit a person’s health and help revitalise them and release unwanted physical pressure or mental stress

Sports Massage is not just for the competing athlete but for anyone taking part in sport. Taking part in sport can be enjoyable and strenuous and many athletes wish to improve their performance and usually this involves increased levels of training and consequently subjecting the body to gradual and controlled overuse. This use of the body can cause problems in the soft tissue, creating imbalance and discomfort, Athletes often ignore the early warning signs of such problems and these can become chronic and lead to more serious conditions. They cannot reach their optimum performance level and are potentially leaving themselves open to more traumatic types of injury.

Sports massage should play an important part in the life of any sportsman or woman, it should not just be confined for remedial and rehabilitation treatments. Massage has a number of benefits both physical, physiological and psychological which if accessed regularly can help to maintain the body generally in better condition.

How Massage can help: Tight or damaged muscle tissue will squeeze blood out, depriving the tissues of vital nutrients and energy to repair. The stroking movements in massage suck fluid through blood vessels and lymph vessels this helps remove waste products such as lactic acid, that can cause pain, and encourage the muscles to take up oxygen and nutrients which help them recover quicker. Deep massage causes the pores in tissue membranes to open, enabling fluids and nutrients to pass through helping the deeper layers of muscles in the body.

Training can make the make tissues hard and inelastic massage can help reverse this by stretching the tissues and boost performance.  Massage can stretch tissues that could not be stretched in the usual methods releasing any tension or pressure build up.

Injuries can result in the loss of mobility and the build up of scar tissue this can effect muscle, tendons and ligaments. This can lead to inflexible tissues that are prone to injury and pain. Massage can help prevent excessive scar tissue developing  and may restore mobility to injured muscle tissue.

Massage release the bodies endorphins this helps to reduce tension and relax the body.

Sports Massage is a useful aid  in managing and maintaining the health of the soft tissue in the body and can help extend the length of an athletic sporting life .
