An Introduction to Foot Massage, Massage using Feet
(copyright Enjoyfeet Limited) |
| Healthy trained feet are as sensitive as hands for the purpose of massage. Using feet in massage is very simple and easy, the basic strokes do not require much dexterity of the toes, just flexibility in the hip, knees and ankles. In general the receiver lies on a mat on the floor and depending on what area of the body is to be massaged; a chair is placed in the relevant position. |
The massage advantages of a being seated on a chair over the receiver are that the central position of the therapist enables he or she to make a direct comparison of the muscles either side of the body and any inbalance and inequalities can be detected and these muscles can be worked on simultaneously. The strength of the whole body can be used for clients wishing a deep tissue massage. The big toe, the ball of the foot and the heal provides ample pressure if compressions are required.
Some of you may not have previously heard about this massage technique. However if you are open to different experiences, if you try things your friends suggest to you and you see on other health sites, although you should probably check to see whether your health insurance policy will accept it. You will be surprised and delighted by the result and just how good it leaves you feeling.

Lower Leg Massage |
In order to give a complete body massage it is necessary to move around the receiver. We work with four chairs, one at the head, two at the sides of the body. For back massage a chair is placed over the receiver once he or she is in position. The chair can be positioned over the body to suit most body lengths.
When an assessment of the body has been made there is nothing to prevent the therapist moving to a side chair or on to the floor to work. |
To lift the muscles away from the bone we use a lifting movement, for example for the leg we place the balls of the foot either side of the leg then lift and squeeze the muscle with the heels of the foot,
Bigger muscles of the body, for example the gluteus muscles, benefit from heel pressure, with its larger surface area and the full weight of the body behind it.
Our DVD covers these and other massage by feet techniques. In workshop sessions we demonstrate further massage and exercise skills to enhance the massage by feet experience and give foot care advice and treatment.

Ankle Massage |
In our workshops we recommend massage routines that combine a flowing massage sequence with efficiency of movement and comfort of position for the therapist and maximum benefit for the receiver. |
Facial masage using feet
Due to foot flexibility reqiurements and safety training we do not show facial masage in our DVD but we do offer the treatment at our clinic.
